Academy of Learning Career College was first established in 1987 as a franchise system, specializing in computer and business skills training for adult learners using the Integrated Learning TM System ("ILS"). This methodology, which is exclusive to Canada, offers a way of teaching in which the course materials and the instructor create a comprehensive learning environment through the use of many senses. A Learning Coach is a qualified facilitator who works on-site to support learning.
Some Academy of Learning® Career College campuses started offering lesson content in a lively, interactive classroom community in the 1990s. These courses use an instructor to present content in a traditional manner using daily lesson plans that are standardized and comprise approved curriculum. Using this delivery style, the teacher actively engages the class, offers one-on-one coaching to assist students acquire the knowledge and skills they need to succeed, keeps a close eye on their development, and is available to answer any questions or concerns.
Academy of Learning® Career College added "e-learning" technology to the Integrated Learning TM System in more recent years. In addition to access to educational resources, simulated laboratories, exercises, quizzes, review questions, and pre- and post-tests, this system includes online presentations, tutorials, and media. Students enrolled in this delivery type receive assistance from a certified campus facilitator or a trained online instructor.
